American Feast, LLC :: Authentic Wild Rice & Pasta :: Native Harvest Wild Rice: Sacred Manoomin

Native Harvest Wild Rice: Sacred Manoomin

Native Harvest Wild Rice: Sacred Manoomin
This authentic, Heirloom Wild Rice was served by Alice Waters for New Year's at Chez Panisse! Eat well with the "food that grows on the water." Native Harvest Wild Rice grows naturally in the lakes of Northern Minnesota & is hand-harvested by Ojibwe communities on the White Earth Indian Reservation using traditional methods.

Unlike the genetically manipulated, "wild rice" grown in paddies, this truly wild rice is an important American heirloom crop. Wild rice is a central part of Anishinaabeg culture & tradition. Anishinaabeg is a self-description often used by people belonging to the indigenous Odawa, Ojibwe, & Algonkin peoples of North America, who share closely related Algonquian languages. Ojibwe communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan & Canada harvest & process wild rice, following the traditions of their ancestors.

Manoomin, or wild rice is part of the Anishinaabeg migration stories & prophecies & continues to define what it means to be Anishinaabeg. The campaign to protect the integrity of this heirloom wild rice is an important aspect of the White Earth Land Recovery Project.

A Standard order includes 2 boxes of rice. Each of the 2 boxes is 1 pound (16 ounces). A Wholesale order is 20 of the boxes.
